TPITexans for Public Integrity

Mobile app privacy

Effective October 7, 2026 · Includes optional features in TPI 1.2

This notice covers the Texans for Public Integrity mobile app. TPI is an independent publisher, not a government service. Optional website newsletters, questionnaires and external source websites have their own notices.

Browsing and published records

You can browse without creating an account. The app requests public official records, scorecards and published news from TPI services hosted with Supabase and Vercel. Opening the app does not initiate a new research, scraping or AI-analysis job.

Searching the news archive sends the search text to TPI's published-data service so matching stories can be returned. Search text appears in the request query and may be retained with operational request records by service providers. TPI does not use these searches for advertising, cross-app tracking or political profiling.

Address lookups and optional location

In version 1.2 and later, typing in My Texas sends address text to TPI's address-suggestion service and its mapping providers. Selecting Find my representatives sends the address you confirm to TPI's resolver. Mapping providers may include the U.S. Census Bureau, Esri ArcGIS, Geoapify and Photon. They process requests to identify addresses, geographic districts and available representatives. Earlier versions send the address only after submission.

Use my current location is optional. It requests location access while the app is in use, then uses the phone's location and geocoding services to suggest a street address for you to review. TPI does not track location in the background. You can decline location access and enter an address instead. Source services and network providers may retain operational records under their own policies.

Remembered addresses

Remember on this device is off by default. When enabled, the app stores the address in device-bound secure storage and keeps a disposable cache of its representative dashboard. The dashboard refreshes when needed on return or after a publication notice; this does not start new research. Forget address removes the remembered address and dashboard cache. Without Remember, the address and results stay only in the current app session. Your remembered address is separate from bookmarks and is not synchronized to a TPI account. Removing local data does not delete records held separately by service providers. Device keychain behavior after app removal is controlled by the operating system; use Forget address before uninstalling if you want to remove that saved entry.

Bookmarks and local storage

Saved items contain record identifiers, display labels and the time saved. They stay in the app's storage on your device; TPI does not synchronize this bookmark library to an account or use it to infer a political profile. Article bodies, scores, street addresses and coordinates are not stored in this library. Opening a bookmark requests its current published record. Previously opened articles may remain in session memory for offline reading and are labeled when offline. Remove an item or select Clear all saved items in Saved to delete these local bookmarks.

Network connections and service providers

The app establishes a foreground connection for public publication-change counters and retrieves affected published records. The connection stops when backgrounded or no longer needed; a small hourly recovery check is not a new source scan. Service providers receive information needed to handle requests, including IP addresses, approximate city or region derived from network information, requested record paths, and response status or timing. These operational records support delivery, security and troubleshooting; they are distinct from the bookmark library stored only on your device. Hosting, security and mapping providers may retain operational records under their policies and configured service retention. Bookmarks are retained locally until you remove them or clear the app's data. Published public records have a separate editorial retention process.

Your choices and external services

This release has no advertising or cross-app tracking integration, no in-app account registration or paid subscription, and no closed-app push-notification registration. Ordinary browsing does not enroll you in email. Source links and the operating system's share sheet open services you choose; those services receive the information you send and apply their own privacy terms.

Privacy requests and corrections

For access, correction, deletion or a privacy question, email news@texansforpublicintegrity.com. You can also use the official contact routes on our About page. Do not publish your home address or sensitive documents in public comments. To report an app problem, include the app version, phone platform, affected screen and a description without unnecessary personal information. Minimal operational records may be retained for security, legal obligations or investigation of a request.

Changes to this notice

Changes will be reflected in the effective date on this page. A publication or device-sync timestamp does not mean every underlying source was reverified at that time.
